PE and Sport Premium Funding 2025-26

The government’s confirmation in June 2025 that PE and Sport Premium funding will continue for academic year 2025–26 was a welcome update for schools with primary-aged pupils. The purpose of the premium is for schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

It must be used to:

  • Build capacity and capability in the school, ensuring improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future

  • Develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides

To use this funding effectively, you should focus on making improvements in 5 key areas:

  1. Increase all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sporting activities

  2. Increase all pupils’ engagement in regular physical activity and sporting activities

  3. Raise the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement

  4. Offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils, and ensure equal access to sport for boys and girls

  5. Increase participation in competitive sport

With a range of guidance and documentation linked to the funding, knowing where to look can save valuable time. This page has been designed to offer straightforward access to reliable information, including official guidance, essential forms and supporting resources from trusted organisations such as the DfE, Youth Sport Trust, afPE and the National Governance Association.
